Permanent
ice and snow at the top of the world and a revolving gondola lift to take you
to the top of the mountain, chairlifts over deep crevasses and exploring a
glacier cave... If any of these sound amazing -- Mount Titlis is the place for
you. There are also restaurants and breathtaking views for those of us who
prefer to be amazed in comfort while sitting on top of the world at 10,600 ft
(3,238m).
Titlis
is Central Switzerland's highest mountain and the views are amazing. However,
be prepared: it is a bit like a high altitude theme park. The ice cave has
music and flashing neon lights and the surrounding peaks like shark fins, the
glacier and the sweeping views to pastures, cliffs and waterfalls should make
you forget any crass commercialism
Economically,
Mount Titlis makes a lot of sense. Mt Titlis is very well priced for what it
offers. Clients who hold valid Swiss or Eurail passes get a 50% reduction on
the entrance ticket. Mt Titlis is the only mountain excursion to have this
spectacular offer. There is no separate charge for the use of the Glacier Park
– all the activities on it are free.
Although
there is no class and price differential, you may book the VIP gondola for your
clients. In this 4 seater gondola, you are served complimentary Prosecco
champagne or orange juice.
Titlis
Rotair
The
TITLIS ROTAIR gondola rotates its way up towards the snow-covered summit of
TITLIS. It is the world's first revolving gondola which transports people at
3,020 metres above sea-level.
It
takes only 40 minutes one way over 3 stages of cable cars which is the quickest
ascent to any snow mountain in summer. The first cable car is built for about 6
people which takes up up and away. Next was a big lift carrying about 40 or so
- this took us up a few flights of stairs only and then all out and into a big
gondola which took us all to the next station, after that a little gondola
holding again about 6 people.
The
gondola revolves 360 degrees during the five-minute trip, treating you to idyllic
panoramic views of steep rock faces, deep crevasses and distant snow-covered
mountain peaks.
Titlis
Cliff Walk
Once
out I put on my thermals and scarf and extra jacket as it was snowing already.I
went straight to the suspension bridge. It is the world's scariest bridge,3,041
metres above sea-level. 500 metres off the ground. 150 heart-pounding steps
Engineers have spent five months building the Titlis Cliff Walk, Europe's
highest suspension bridge .To cross the bridge, you'll need nerves as strong as
the steel cables from which it hangs.
The
100-meter long Titlis Cliff Walk is built along a section of Mount Titlis to
celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of a cableway which joined the
towns of Engelberg and Gerschnialp in January 1913.
The
TITLIS Cliff Walk is just one metre wide and 100 metres long. The views into
the abyss below are breathtaking. There was a lady in a little cubicle there so
I had a talk with her and found out how to take a picture of myself on the
bridge. I walked up to the bridge and along it. I pushed the button on the box
when I got there and took a photo of myself. Carried on walking the bridge will
lead you to 140 metre long underground tunnel, to the viewing platform at the
south wall window. The suspension bridge will connect the south wall window to
the Ice Flyer glacier chair lift station. Before leaving make sure to take the
ticket for your photo number. Brought the photos at the end of the bridge, they
cost about 12 francs each for a normal size photo.
Entry
to the Cliff Walk is free of charge and the suspension bridge will be closed in
bad weather.
Ice
Flyer
To
truly experience the snow and ice on top of Mount TITLIS, try the chairlift Ice
Flyer. It is an open cable seater which sweeps you smoothly and safely over crisp,
virgin snow fields and icy depths.Be sure to cast your eyes down into the
impressive glacier world below beacause some of the crevasses are up to ten
metres deep. Only here in TITLIS you can expect such a fantastic glacier
experience.
An
exciting and thrilling ride through clouds and over glaziers is
breathtaking. It's rather difficult to put the feeling in few words. One must
experience it. We did it twice.
In
the summer months, the Ice Flyer will carry you from the mountain station to
the SNOW PARK UP ON THE GLACIER. And in winter, the chair lift will take you
all the way up to the fantastic SKI SLOPES on the summit.
Glacier Park
It's
a place for fun and excitement on snow and ice. Located at the valley station
of the Ice Flyer chairlift, this unique park is an ideal family destination for
beginners and advanced. You can try out all kinds of sledging equipment:
Balancer, Snow-Scoots, Snake Gliss etc. The ascent is easy and effortless with
the Magic Carpet mowing walkway.
Snowtubing
is the ultimate alternative sledding experience which will see you skimming the
glistening snow as you hurtle down the piste on a rubber tyre. You can choose
whether to sit or lie, and whether to set off facing forwards or backwards.
You’re sure to spin full circle several times before reaching the end of this
bumpy yet exhilarating ride. But don't worry, it is totally safe.
Trotti-bike:
Bike your way down the last stage of the descent. A trotti is like a scooter
you stand on and gently break your way down.
Glacier
Cave
It's
like a magical world of ice awaits you. This glacier cave forms the frosty heart
of TITLIS. The ice here was frozen long before prehistoric man discovered how
to make fire using pyrite.
The
cave's 150-metre-long walkway branches out in several directions and descends
20 metres below the surface of the glacier. The hazy atmosphere is the result
of tiny air pockets in the ice, and the blue colour is caused by the refraction
of light. There are lots of ice creatures also, you can pose a nice click.
Exploring
the glacier cave is a cool experience. The temperature inside the cave remains
a frosty -1.5˚C.The cave can be easily accessed via a corridor from the TITLIS
ROTAIR Cableways mountain station. Entry to the glacier cave is free of charge.
Photo
Studio
In
the photo studio on TITLIS, they have a vast array of shirts and trousers,
dresses and bodices, as well as bonnets and hats from various regions of
Switzerland. They also have some great costumes for kids.
The
traditional garments are made to fit easily over your everyday attire. The
stylists are on hand to offer advice on the various outfits and will provide
you with the appropriate accessories, such as an Alphorn or Swiss accordion.
The photographer will then take your photo with Mount TITLIS in the background.
Your photo will be ready in just three minutes – an unforgettable memory of
your trip to TITLIS.
A number of celebrities have also had their
photo taken here. But i found it bit costly,so clicked from my camera itself.
Things
to remember:
- Keep plastic bags to put electrnonic items safe.
- No need of so many clothes, but yes cover each part, gloves, socks, woolen cap and most important shoes.
- Don't forget to keep sunglasses, otherwise after sometime your eyes will not able to open properly.
- Keep cash, room keys, documents in plastic bag only.
- Bring water bottle with you.
It looks absolutely stunning there Ritu. Have only been skiing once and I was rubbish because the bad weather meant the nursery slopes started higher up the mountain and were really steep. Plus the nutters were out in force! One broke a fellow skier's collar bone, legging it down too fast and not looking where he was going.
ReplyDeleteI think I drank a few extra glasses of vino (in lovely bars) and found a great hotel nearby with an outdoor pool. Now that was great! Swimming in the warmth with snow all around.
The scenery was beautiful!
Ohhh thats very sad,but anyways you enjoyed swimming, that is quite good.
ReplyDeleteNext time when u visit,do all the activities and have lots of fun.
